Picking the Perfect Pumpkin Posted on September 20, 2010 by socialmedia by It’s about that time. Time to find the perfect pumpkin and carve it into the perfect jack-o’-lantern. Here are some tricks of the trade to picking the perfect pumpkin. Find a pumpkin in a shape that you like. It’s a good idea to know the design you are going to carve beforehand. A ripe pumpkin should be completely orange and have a hard shell that does not dent or scratch easily. Check for bruises. If the pumpkin has any bruises or soft spots, it will rot faster. Make sure your pumpkin has a flat sitting place. Some pumpkins don’t “sit” well, and therefore they don’t make very good jack-o’-lanterns. Once you find your perfect pumpkin, do not carry it by the stem. If the stem breaks off, the pumpkin will rot quickly. As fun as it is to carve your pumpkin, you should wait to carve it until Halloween is only a few days away. This will ensure that your jack-o’-lantern will last through Halloween.
